Improvement In Airport Infrastructure Excites Civil Society Group
The National Coordinator
Rights Monitoring Group and country director Centre for Convention on Democratic Integrity (RMG/CCDI), Olufemi Aduwo has commended the Federal Government and the Aviation Ministry for the intiative in revamping airport facilities across the country.
Aduwo said that in measuring the Ministry of Aviation’s achievement, RMG noted that the sector has been moved to the next level, stressing that where the aviation sector was before the former Minister Stella Oduah came on board and where it is today and what has been achieved afterwards has been tremendous.
“A blind person will notice and feel the changes in most of the airports in recent years. The planned five new airport terminals in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt between now and 2015 and the designation of 13 airport as cargo terminals will transform the aviation sector into major revenue earner for the country and accelerate domestic tourism”, Aduwo said.
He noted that the former minister has shown that “where there is a will there is a way and that is how I see her performance. She belongs to the group of ministers that civil societies tagged A+”.
According to him, the Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Investments, and Trade and the Minister of Finance regardless of political motivated accusation against them are creating jobs and investment opportunities in their various ministries.
“We supported the idea of national airline to serve as a Nigerian national flag carrier without government involvement such airline should be listed in stock exchange where you and I can actually invest in the business which functions like other international airlines”, he stated.
He said the initiative of Aerotropolis, that would stimulate businesses around and within the location of airport facility is commendable, adding that encompasses a range of commercial facilities supported by both aviation linked business and tourism related business.
Mr Aduwo enjoined politicians and professional critics not to allow sentiment to becloud their senses in judging the performance of the ministries and other government appointees, remarking that in the interest of continuity some of the ministers should stay.
