Coach In Court Over Alleged Visa Fraud

A football Coach,
Olutunde Obadina, who allegedly defrauded a man under the pretext of helping to get an Indian visa, yesterday appeared before an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Obadina, who resides at No. 56, Arowojobe, Oshodi, Lagos, was charged with fraud and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 18 at Arowojobe.
He said that the accused fraudulently obtained N210, 000 from Mr Jimoh Salami under the false pretences of helping his son, Ridwan, to procure an Indian visa.
“The accused is a coach of a football club who trains young boys in football.
“He told the complainant that his son, who is a footballer, was among those selected to travel abroad.
“He collected N210, 000 from him to process the visa,” he said.
Olatunde said that the accused did not get the visa nor refund the money.
He submitted that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 312 prescribes 15 years jail term for fraudsters, while Section 285 provides for three years imprisonment for stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded innocence, and was granted bail by the Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola, in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Fashola adjourned the case to March 23 for mention.
