Pupils Get FG’s Textbooks In Awka

governor,Peter Obi last Monday distributed instructional and library resource materials donated by the Federal Government to pupils to promote quality education in the state.
During the distribution in Awka, Obi thanked the Federal Government for its commitment to education.
The governor assured the people that up till his last days in office, he would continue to promote education in a bid to eradicate illiteracy in the state and declared that he would make teaching pleasurable for the teachers in public schools by providing vehicles for more than 10,141 primary and secondary schools in the state.
He urged the pupils, parents and teachers to ensure that the materials were judiciously utilised to promote quality education.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education in the state, Mrs Uju Okeke, said the state had complemented the Federal Government’s efforts in education by procuring and distributing educational materials.
She said the state government had ensured the prompt payment of matching grants, personal visits to schools, employment of staff and provision of vehicles to some schools in the state.
Okeke said in spite of the efforts to make basic education free in all public schools, the acquisition of textbooks remain a challenge.
According to her, the provision of textbooks for learners in the basic education system is a vital component of the UBE scheme.
The chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr Nzemeka Olisah, said the education sector had witnessed huge development since the inception of the present administration.
Olisah said the 7,000 instructional materials would be distributed to all public primary schools in the state with the monitoring team to ensure that they were judiciously used.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state, Mr Ifeanyi Ofodile, commended the government and urged the teachers to ensure that the materials were used optimally.
Master Abuchi Okafor from Community Primary School, Nibo, thanked the government for giving them the books and bags and promised to read hard to compliment the government.
