A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Arua Arunsi, has said that the ongoing Federal Government projects in Nkporo community of Abia State would be completed before 2015 general elections.

Arunsi, who represents Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State, stated this in an interview in Nkporo, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.

He listed the projects to include the 37-kilometre Abiriba-Nkporo-Osso-Edda road which links Abia and Ebonyi, the 32-kilometre Ohafia-Arochukwu road and the N300-million Nkporo Water Scheme.

It would be recalled that the Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, had inaugurated the N4.8-billion Abriba-Nkporo-Osso-Edda Road and the N2.8-billion Ohafia-Arochukwu Road projects on March 29.

The lawmaker assured the people that the delay in the execution of the projects would soon be over, with the establishment of an asphalt plant in the area by an Italian contractor.

He pointed out that the current delay was caused by difficulties in getting asphalt from Owerri in neighbouring Imo, to the project site.

He said “once the asphalt plant is in place, the job becomes faster. “As long as I remain in the National Assembly, the projects will be completed; government’s projects often suffer neglect and abandonment when there is nobody to follow it up. “Once somebody is there to make sure that money for the contract is available and the contractors use the money for the project, it will be completed.’’

He noted that the water scheme was started by late Sam Mbakwe’s administration in the defunct Imo, but was not completed.

The legislator commended Governor Theodor Orji of Abia and Sen. Uche Chukwumerije representing Abia North in the Senate, for helping in drawing Federal Government’s attention to the needs of the people.

Arunsi said he had bought block molding machines, vehicles and other economic empowerment materials worth over N70 million, for the commencement of his 2014 constituency projects.
