Kinsmen Hail Ex-Army Chief’s Performance
Two prominent sons of
Ovim in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State last Friday have lauded the successful tenure of outgone Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika.
The traditional ruler of Ohonja-Ovim Autonomous community (Ihejirika’s community), Eze Eke Ginikanwa, said that the community “ was grateful to President Goodluck Jonathan for giving our son the opportunity to serve the nation in that capacity’’.
Ginikanwa said that this was the first time somebody from the South-East geopolitical zone would hold the exalted post after the former Head of State, late Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi.
“Naturally, when we received the news of his removal, we felt very happy because it is not easy to hold that position, especially with the insurgency in some parts of the country. “We are rejoicing here, the whole Isuikwuato is in a joyous mood. We are also happy and grateful to God that he served meritoriously,’’ he said.
Ginikanwa, who is the Deputy Chairman of Isuikwuato Council of Traditional Rulers, commended the former COAS for his intervention in arresting security challenges in the area.
Also a former Military Administrator of Cross River, retired Navy Capt. Chris Osondu, said that the community had good reason to be grateful to the president.
Osondu expressed happiness that Ihejirika served the nation meritoriously in spite of the security challenges in the country.
He also expressed happiness that the former COAS reached the apex of his military career, noting that he had one of the longest tenures as COAS.
