Kaduna Gets Panel To Review Revenue Laws

The Kaduna State
Government has set up a committee to review its revenue laws, according to the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Garba Madami.
Madami told newsmen recently in Kaduna that the panel would identify all sources of revenue, pursue them and ensure appropriate remittance to the government.
According to the commissioner, the committee will also ensure the enforcement of the government revenue and tax laws.
Madami said the committee would also block all areas of revenue leakages and wastages, noting that the aim is to ensure that the mistake in 2013 budget was not repeated in the 2014 budget.
“These mistakes and leakages were major bottlenecks for yearly budget realisation but “the committee will ensure all revenues are paid directly into designated government bank accounts from Jan. 30,” he said.
The commissioner said all bid documents would henceforth attract fee, while adequate incentives would be provided for staff in revenue generating agencies.
According to him, the challenge of the 2013 budget is that it was unrealistic and too ambitious.
“The mistake made in 2013 budget was a challenge that had impacted adversely on the execution of capital projects in the state.
“In order to avoid this challenge, some precautionary measures to ensure the actualisation of 2014 budget have been put in place,” he said.
Madami said the government hoped to realise N29 billion as internally generated revenue this year.
