The Igala community in Anambra East Local Government of Anambra State, last Monday, crowned a management consultant, Chief Pius Ojonile, as its new traditional ruler.

Ojonile, who succeeded Igwe Omatala Nwaorah, who died 10 years ago, was also presented with a certificate by the Anambra State Government at the ceremony.

Olumbanasa, a predominantly Igala community, had been without a traditional ruler since the demise of Nwaorah in 2003.

Presenting a certificate to Ojonile at a ceremony in Awka, the Special Adviser to Gov. Peter Obi on Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Godffery Moutolu, urged him to administer his office with the fear of God.

Moutolu also urged the new ruler to be fair in his dealings with members of the community and assured him of the state government’s support.

He also assured the traditional ruler of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) from the government like his colleagues in the state.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Mr Fidelis Okafor, said the appointment was the best Christmas gift to the people.

Responding, Ojonile solicited the cooperation of all to succeed and thanked the community and the state government for the appointment. He also promised to increase his community development efforts with new zeal.

The President-General of the community, Mr Lawrence Nnacho, said the appointment brought a huge relief to the community.
