The Head of Service of the
Federation, Alhaji Bukar Aji, has urged workers in the country to be reform-minded to help the government attain its transformation agenda.
The head of service made the call in Enugu last Monday during an interactive session with workers of federal establishments in the state.
Aji, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Nkechi Ejele, said the ongoing reforms in the various sectors would benefit the workers and Nigerians in general.
He announced that the Bureau of Public Service Reforms had been resuscitated with the appointment of a new director-general to coordinate the activities of parastatal agencies in the federal civil service.
He said the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) had been improved to ensure efficient and effective payment of salaries and other entitlements.
Aji expressed sadness at the deplorable condition of the federal secretariat in Enugu and promised to take the matter up.
The head of service advised workers to key into benefits provided by the government, including housing loans to improve their welfare.
On disparity in salary structure, the HOSF explained that the basic salaries were the same but that there were differences in certain allowances.
Some of the workers who spoke at the meeting urged the government to restore the 30 working days of annual leave and the services of cleaners.
They also called for the decentralisation of the IPPIS for easy access to the workers outside the headquarters.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Association of Heads of Federal Government Establishments in the state, Mr Umunna Uchella, thanked the HOSF for the visit.
