Gov Reiterates Commitment To Education Sector

Governor Peter Obi of
Anambra last Saturday reiterated his administration’s commitment towards improving the education sector in the state.
Obi, who made the promise at the 7th matriculation of Tansian University, Umunya, Oyi local government area, said education was critical in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The governor, who donated N100 million, a school bus and a security vehicle to the university said the success of the institution would augur well for the development of the state.
He gave the assurance that his administration would continue to support the institution and urged the students to be good ambassadors of the university.
The Chancellor of the university, Rev. Johnbosco Akam, said academic activities would commence in February at the permanent site.
While commending the governor for the donation, Akam appealed to the state government to assist the institution with the construction of roads and provision of water and electricity.
In his address, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Pandela Umechukwu, said that the university had graduated three sets of students since its inception seven years ago.
Umechukwu, who warned the students against indecent dressing, cultism and other social vices, said that the institution would continue to be a pace setter in moulding characters. (NAN)
