Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Rt.Hon.Chibuike Amaechi ‘s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a plus to the Nigerian democracy and a move that would strengthen the nation.
The Rivers State Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, who stated this in an exclusive interview with The Tide, said Governor Amaechi’s defection with four other governors to APC had brought about a corresponding wave of political change in the country that would ensure a permanent change and development in the country.
Ikanya noted that the defection had changed the equation at the centre, noting that the corresponding wave of change was still ongoing and might not end till the party had taken over the leadership of the country in 2015.
According to him,”the House of Representatives has experienced the wave,we also expect that the Senate will follow suit. When that is done, you will know that his defection is no longer Rivers matter, but a national issue.
He also said the APC would engender true democratic process in the state where there will be internal democracy, rule of law, justice for all and equitable distribution of wealth of the nation to all parts of the country, adding that with this scenario, the mind set of people will be service to the nation.
He debunked the insinuation that all the political heavyweights were working against Governor Amaechi, stating that the so-called heavyweights had worked under the governor.
“These people are hungry and cannot win elections in their respective units and wards. They cannot win elections because they have failed their people previously”,he said.
He regretted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had nothing to reply to the issues and manifesto of the APC,hence, they had resorted to abuses which he described as wrong and lack of ideas.
Ikanya also noted that Rivers State had suffered a lot under the present administration as he assured that the state would get back what it had lost under the leadership of the PDP.
“APC will see to the dependable, sustainable good governance in the country. Our problem is that the country lacks good workable system”,he said.
