Anambra Records 200 Births On New Year Day
Anambra State last Wednesday witnessed the birth of no fewer than 200 babies across the state, the wife to the Governor, Mrs Margret Obi, said.
The governor’s wife made the disclosure while presenting gift items and cash to 15 of the babies in Awka. The gifts presentation ceremonies were done across the three senatorial zones of the state.
Mrs Obi, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Henrietta Agbata, said no fewer than 200 women were delivered of babies on January 1 in the state.
She urged the mothers to exclusively breastfeed the babies for at least six months.
The state’s first baby of the year, a female, named Chinemerem Ezinwanne, was delivered at the Primary Health Centre, Awka, at exactly 12 a.m. and weighed 3.2kg.
Her parents, Mr Oliver and Mrs Ebele Ezinwanne from Okpo Village, Ekwulobia, expressed happiness over the cash and gifts from the governor’s wife.
