The Anambra Government
on Monday assured the Nigeria Army of its continuous support and partnership in order to rid the state of crime and other criminal tendencies.
Col. George Molokwu (rtd), the Special Adviser to Anambra State Government on Security Matters, said this in Onitsha during the send-off for Brig.-Gen. Taritimiye Gagariga, the outgoing Commander of 302 Artillery Regiment, Onitsha.
The ceremony was organised by the Honorary Members of Officers’ Mess, Onitsha.
Molokwu noted that the army had played a pivotal role in the success of the state government in reducing crime and other anti-social behaviours to the barest minimum.
He lauded the army for saving lives and property during the flood disaster in 2012.
‘’We want to laud the Nigerian Army and its crop of dedicated officers and soldiers for your gallant efforts to fight crime, respond to natural disasters and involvement in building infrastructure in this state. ‘’We are happy that the outgoing commander, Brig.-Gen. Gagariga, had been elevated after working dutifully for the betterment of this state these years,’’ he noted.
Earlier, Brig.-Gen. Johnny Mbanefo (rtd.), described Gagariga as an officer with exceptional dedication to duty, adding that his managerial ability had made the army more responsive and proactive to situations.
Mbanefo, who stated that officers and soldiers must have learnt a lot from the outgoing commander, said: ‘’I wish the incoming commander would take his cue from Brig.-Gen. Gagariga.’’
in his comments, Mr Patrick Akobo, Secretary, Honorary Members of Officers’ Mess, Onitsha, said that the Onitsha Military Barracks had witnessed a lot of transformation within the past two years.
‘’There is a new tarred road, functional streetlights, functional medical hospital as well as a newly refurbished and well equipped fitness centre. ‘’The secondary and primary schools in the barrack had received tremendous renovation; while some competitions had been introduced to challenge the pupils and students,’’ he said.
