Amaechi Reassures On Development

The previous week in Government House was filled with activities following the New Year celebrations. On the 31st of December, Governor Amaechi made a live broadcast to the people of the state. He assured that the government is poised to sustain the pace of governance.

According to him, the vision of development  remains the same covering education, health care and infrastructure provision.

He assured that as the government enters into the last lap of its tenure, it will ensure that no project is left uncompleted.

He used the new year message to renew government’s commitment to better governance. “ Our door remains open based on the constitution of the Federal Government. We have risen to the challenge of these problems.’’

On New Year Day, Rivers State Government announced  special honours to some past administrators and eminent citizens of the state to commemorate the new year.

Some of the eminent personalities honoured include, former Rivers State Military Administrator,  General Zamani Lekwot (Rtd),  a former Minister of Aviation,  Alabo T O. Graham- Douglas, Late Ken Saro -Wiwa, late Harold Dappa Biriye, Prof Kay Williamson, Late Albert Badey and Prof Otonti Nduka.

Governor Amaechi said considering the developmental strides and historical legitimacy of the activities of government since 1967, there is need to accord honour to deserving citizens who promoted political stability, transparency and good governance.

Earlier on Friday, the State Government debunked claims by the Rivers State Police Command over the arrest of the leader of Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd on January 2, 2014.

Among facts that need to be straightened include claims that Hon. Lloyd was arrested in Governor Amaechi’s chartered plane, which is not true since he, Lloyd was arrested in his house in the presence of his family and lawyer. Secondly, Governor Amaechi has no private plane since the state government’s jet was banned by the Federal Airport Authority. In addtion, Hon. Lloyd had no plan to escape with the governor.

Also, within the week, the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Rivers State, commended Governor Amaechi on many giant  strides particulary, in health, education, roads, bridges, power, human capital development.

Interim State Chairman, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, stated this last Friday, during a press chat at the State headquaters of APC.

According to him, “ A clear evidence of the frugality and accountability of government of Rt. Hon Amaechi is the achievement of a B plus rating by Fitch, which is a global rating agency dedicated to providing value beyond the rating of independent and prospective credit opinions reserach and data’’.
