Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has debunked insinuations that his government does not patronise local contractors.

Speaking in  an interview with newsmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Governor Okorocha said that his government had been supportive of the local contractors.

He noted that the most of the road projects were awarded to local contractors, saying “we will continue to support and encourage our local contractors to grow”.

“We are talking of 400,000 school uniforms we have received and the quality is the best. It does not mean that we do not want to encourage our local contractors and the foreign company that produced the uniforms will come here to establish business.

“For instance, most of our road contracts were awarded to local contractors had most of the old and new tractors are here and they are all working.

“You can trust our people talking all the time on irrelevant issues, but I believe that what matters most is benefit”, he said.

He reiterated his commitment to the educational advancement of his people, adding that education in Imo State would continue to be completely free.

“I have always given all that I have when it comes to free education because, to me, education has no alternative.

“Before I became governor, I had already set up the “Rochas Foundation Colleage” for children of the poor and the less privileged, because there cannot be development  without education and education in Imo State will continue to be completely free.

“Today, Imo is ranking high in education and we have met the MDGs in education”, he said.
