NDLEA Arrests 442 Suspects In Anambra
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State has said it had arrested 442 suspects and seized 409 kilogrammes of various narcotic substances between January and November 2013.
Commander of the agency in the state, Mr Sule Momodu, made the disclosure in Awka at a news conference on the activities of the command during the period under review.
Momodu said 275.944 kilogrammes of Cannabis, 130 kilogrammes of Psychotropic substance, 4.3 kilogrammes of Metharnp-hetarnine and 55.6 grammes of cocaine were seized from the suspects.
He said the suspects were arrested in 13 different locations which included Ora village in lfitedunu community, Mgbakwu village, Kwata market, Awka, Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Atani, Nkpor, Abatete and Ihiala.
According to him, the agency filed 161 cases at the Federal High Court, Awka.
“We would have done better if not for the challenge of finance and logistics,” Momodu said.
He said that the command was still battling to curb the activities of major distributors of narcotic substances in the state.
Momodu appealed to the state government to assist the agency with operational vehicles and other logistic support to enable the command enhance its operations in the state.
