The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) are collaborating for the Road Safety Walk campaign for pedestrians to emphasise the need for safety on the road.

The Managing Director, SNEPCo, Mr. Chika Onyejekwe, said the safety campaign was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme, adding that the essence was to enlighten the public on the importance of safety as it related to pedestrians.

He said, “We feel that as a part of our corporate social responsibility, it is good to create the awareness and make people realise their rights, and their safety and to obey traffic rules because it will help to save lives.”

He stated that some of the road accidents could have been avoided if pedestrians and motorists obeyed traffic laws.

Deputy Corps Marshall, FRSC, Danjuma Garuba, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, took part in the safety campaign.

Opeifa urged road users to obey traffic laws, stressing that the Lagos State government was working to ensure that infrastructures that would safeguard road users and pedestrians were put in place.

The safety walk was a three-kilometre distance, which began at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island through Adetokunbo Ademola and ended at the beach front.
