Council workers have expressed their support for Austin Eguavoen’s bid to coach the state-owned Bendel Insurance FC of Benin.
The workers, who spoke through their Chairman, Bernard Eguakhide, told newsmen in Benin that Eguavoen was well-qualified for the job.
“Bendel Insurance, right now, needs the services of a first-rate coach to return it to the premiership division.
“One of the major challenges, besides that of adequate finance, is the lack of a first-rate coach for the club.
“A coach with class will bring class to the club and its games.
“Insurance, certainly, as at today, needs a coach with class because it has lost touch since its relegation to the nationwide lower division,’’ he said.
Eguakhide added that Edo had an array of talented coaches that could get the job done and stressed that the former Super Eagles Head Coach was a good candidate for the job.
“We have good first-rate coaches in Edo.
“And we strongly believe that Eguavoen, if employed, will propel the club to the premiership, in no distant time,’’ he added.
Eguavoen, in a recent interview, had said that if contacted by the Edo government, he would accept to coach Bendel Insurance.
The club got relegated to the lower rungs of the country’s league from the premier league in the 2007/2008 season, and had been unable to gain promotion back to the premier league eversince.
