Governor Theo-
dore Orji of Abia State has appealed to employers of corps members in the state to provide conducive environment for those posted to their establishments to enable them to perform optimally.
In his address at the end of the 2013 batch ‘C’ NYSC orientation course at Ummuna in Bende Local Government Area recently, Orji said the corps members should be treated well to perform optimally.
“I implore our teeming corps employers to willingly accept these young and vibrant youths and provide them the basic facilities such as accommodation and good welfare to enable them to perform their duties optimally,’’ he said.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Chief Emeka Ananaba, said that ministries, departments and agencies had been mandated to accept corps members posted to them.
He assured the corps members of his administration’s resolve to continue to provide the enabling environment for them to showcase their talents in their chosen endeavours.
Orji also assured the corps members of their safety in any part of the state, the security challenges in some parts of the country notwithstanding.
“I urge you to feel at home here in God’s own state and positively contribute your quota to the general uplift of our people.
“Let me further assure you of the kindheartedness of Abia people and their willingness to assist and accommodate visitors.
“Be free to mix freely with them but endeavour to respect their culture and traditions,’’ he urged the corps members.
Orji commended the Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Victoria Okakwu, for a successful orientation course and pledged that his administration would continue to support NYSC to attain its set goals and objectives at all times.
The highlights of the ceremony included a display of martial arts and a special “silent parade’’ by two groups of corps members.
