Farmer Blames 2012 Flooding On Dams

A renowned farmer from
Ikata in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Effort Aggrey, has said that last year’s flooding which devastated parts of the Niger Delta region was not natural.
Chief Aggrey, who spoke to our correspondent recently at his country home on the likelihood that the flood may not come in 2013 as predicted attributed the development to the non release of water from some of the country’s dams.
According to him, since the prediction said between October and November 2013 that there would be flooding and November was almost gone, people have no option but to believe that there would be no flooding again in 2013.
“Today, November has almost gone and yet the flood has not come. We have not said it will not come because they say October and November.
“But ordinarily we expect that by this time there should be signs to show that there will be flooding in the coastal areas” he said.
He further explained that  people had concluded in their minds that there would be no flooding this year.
Chief Aggrey enthused that the development has confirmed the saying that man proposes and God disposes.
He expressed happiness that the flood did not come even as he said the flood of last year was not a natural one.
According to him, there were strong indications that the flood of last year was a deliberate release of water and since no body has discharge water this year there would be no flooding.
Describing the handlers of the various dams as enemies of the Niger Delta  people, Chief Aggrey, said the authorities release of water was suitable to them but not the people who live along the coastal states.
“So we strongly believed that it was the deliberate discharged of water that caused last year’s flooding.
“So this year nobody has released water so there is no flood.
“When I say enemies, I mean those people involved in releasing the water to suit themselves to the disadvantage of people of the Niger Delta region and the coastal areas along the River Niger.
“So if you accumulate water and release at will then you are an enemy of those people that such action will affect” he said.
One some of the advantages facing farmers with the flood not coming, Chief Aggrey said the people were happy.
