A group, International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law (Intersociety), has called on the Federal Government to construct a road to link Atani and Ndoni communities.

He said that the road would boost economic activities in the South-East and South-South zones.

Chairman of the group, Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi, who made the call recently in Onitsha said that the road would link the people of Anambra with their kiths and kins in Rivers and also ease movement of goods and services to Onitsha, Nnewi, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Yenagoa.

Umeagbalasi said that the government should also construct a bridge and road to link Ogwuikpere-Ogbaru (Atani) in Anambra and Ndoni in Rivers.

“The project will shorten the distance between Port Harcourt and Onitsha to about one and a half hours,’’ he said.

The chairman also stressed the need for the Federal Government to decongest the Lagos wharf and dredge River Nigeria.

He urged the governors in the South-East zone to create more industrial layouts in the zone.

Umeagbalasi said that industrialists, who indicated interest to invest in the layouts, should be provided with electricity, roads, security and tax concession.

“We wish to remind President Goodluck Jonathan that the people of the South-East and the South-South zones are still waiting for the take-off of the second Niger Bridge project,’’ he said.
