Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Chief? Afam Ogene, has inaugurated 110 laptop computers donated by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra.

Inaugurating the computers on Tuesday at the Atani campus of the institution, Ogene said the donation was facilitated by him as part of his constituency project in the community.

Ogene, who represents the Ogbaru Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, told students of the institution to use the computer as a tool to surpass their current academic achievements.

He urged the institution to make good use of the computers for learning and teaching, and to ensure that they were not vandalised or stolen. He appealed to the host community of the institution to partner with the polytechnic to ensure the protection of facilities at the campus.

In his speech, Rector of the institution, Prof. Godwin Onu, thanked NCC for the donation and for complementing his administration’s effort in taking the polytechnic to the next level.

Onu also commended the lawmaker for facilitating the donation of the computers to the institution, and assured that the equipment would be put to good use.

An NCC representative, Mr Mike Onyia, said the laptops were part of the commission’s assistance project under its Advanced Digital Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI).

He said that the polytechnic was among the 52 tertiary institutions that had benefited from the scheme this year, adding that 222 other institutions had benefited since its inception in 2008.
