2014 W/Cup: ‘S’Eagles ’ll Beat Malawi, Anyday, Anywhere’
An Assistant Technical Director with the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Mr James Peters, has assured that the Super Eagles would defeat Malawi in their upcoming 2014 World Cup Qualifier.
Peters told newsmen yesterday in Abuja that he was confident of victory for the Super Eagles, based on what they now have.
“The Super Eagles now have more experience than they had during the first leg match against Malawi at Blantyre in June 2012,’’ he said.
Our correspondent reports that the Super Eagles will face the Flames of Malawi in a must-win match at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar on September 7.
The match is the two teams’ last Group F fixture in the Brazil 2014 Africa Zone Qualifying Series’ Second Round.
Our correspondent reports that the Super Eagles have nine points and merely need to only avoid defeat to reach the 10-team final elimination round, while Malawi needs an outright win to advance.
Peters said the experience the Super Eagles players got from their recent outings would be an advantage to them.
“The form of our boys has peaked after the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil and the Mandela Challenge match has added to the team’s strength.
“With the Super Eagles’ present form, they will beat Malawi on their own ground, or even at their country’s best stadium.
“But, fortunately for them, they are coming to Nigeria for this decisive match, and this will save them from that embarrassment.
“Without mincing words, I am sure the Super Eagles are ready for the match,” he said.
The former assistant Super Eagles coach also said the Nigerian side now posed a threat to many of their African counterparts.
“ Today in Africa, it will be difficult for any African team to beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
“This is because both Brazil and Nigeria produce world-class players more than any other country in the whole world,” Peters said.
