Group Lauds Obi Over Land Gift To Hausa, Youruba Communities
Onitsha (Anambra), July 6, 2013 (NAN) Campaign for Democracy (CD) in South-East zone, has commended Gov. Peter Obi for relocating Hausa and Yoruba traders and park owners affected by the ongoing expansion of the Onitsha-Enugu Road.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the governor gave the traders and park owners over 10 plots of land at Nkwelle Ezinnaka community along the Onitsha-Enugu Road.
The land had already been fenced with barb-wire.
The chairman, CD South-East zone, Mr Uzor Uzor, gave the commendation in Onitsha on Saturday when he led a delegation to the palace of Sarkin Hausawan, Alhaji Iliyasu Yushau.
The delegation comprised members of CD, Bridge Head Market Stakeholders forum and Yoruba community.
He said, “Gov. Peter Obi has shown once more that he is a father with kindness and love for all.’’
“The land allocated to our brothers from the North and South-West shows how deeply concerned the governor take the wellbeing of the traders and park owners affected by the ongoing road project.’’
In his remark, Chief Peter Okala, the Chairman, Bridge Head Market Stakeholders Forum, said that by relocating the traders to a strategic location, Obi had shown passion and love for all Nigerians.
“The gesture is commendable. It will help to cement the existing brotherhood and love that existed for over 50 years between our people, Hausa and Yoruba brothers doing business in Onitsha and Anambra,’’ he said.
Also speaking, Alhaji Lateef Balogun, Deputy Leader of Yoruba traders in Onitsha, thanked the government for its love and public-spirited gesture for allocating the land.
Alhaji Iliyasu Yushau, the Sarkin Hausawan in Onitsha, who also lauded the government, appealed to the government to provide infrastructure in the land allocated to the traders.
“We want to formalise the documentation of the land.
“Gov. Obi as a father should provide other basic amenities in the place to enable it to be habitable and conducive for our people,’’ he said.
