Contrary to speculations making the rounds, the Commissioner for Works, Rivers State, Hon. Victor Giadom has assured residents of Port Harcourt  metropolis that the Creek  Road project is not abandoned.
Hon Giadom dropped  the hint while fielding questions from journalists in his office in Port Harcourt recently.
He said the present administration  observed that the foundation of the  road was weak and decided to redesigne  it to suit the state policy on roads  and bridges construction.
According to him, ‘we  did not want to pretend that all was well with the  road and lay asphalt on it, when we  knew it would fail after some months”, he stressed, pointing out that Governor Chibuike Rotimi  Amaechi-led  administration was committedto deliver quality and durable roads  and bridges  to the people of Rivers State as their dividends of democracy.
He further hinted that the Creek Road project would be  dualised with modern drains  and street lights, assuring that the ministry is much  more committed  to its resolve  at achieving  the roads  and infrastructure  agenda  of the  administration, including  the realisation of Creek Road construction project.
The Works commissioner lamented  that the wetland, low-lying topography, soil type and rain profile of the  state had limited  the construction period to between December and March every year,   stressing that the situation had also made construction work difficult, expensive and much more delayed in the state.
Hon Giadom however advised the people  of the  state to exercise some patience  and assured that construction work  would soon commence on the Creek Road project.
Meanwhile, some residents of Creek Road have frowned over the long abandonement of the project by the  contracting firms.
They said the contractors after breaking and digging the road, abandoned  it, and it is now a soure of great worry for both residents, traders and indeed motorists as it had forced some to  relocate while commercial  drivers go through Bonny  Street to I.B Johnson Street instead of  Creek Road end.
