Para-Table Tennis To Resume Camp, June
The Technical Director of the Nigeria Deaf Table Tennis Association, Mukaila Olaoye, has said that the association would commence camping in June.
He said that no fewer than 16 players and five officials would be invited for the camping.
Olaoye told newsmen in Lagos that the camping programme would hold in Ibadan.
The technical director said that only eight players and two coaches would make the final selection for the forthcoming Deaflympics Games scheduled for Sofia, Bulgaria.
The Games is scheduled for July 24 to August 4.
“We wanted the camp to be a two-month affair but when we told the authorities, they said they could only afford a month.
“It is fair enough unlike when camp was usually conducted for two weeks.’’
Olaoye, however, appealed to parents to allow their wards to participate in sports, saying that sports would keep them engaged.
“Sports help these special athletes because it also allows them to mingle with others, it keeps them off the streets.
Olaoye who noted that this was the first entry for the para-table tennis event, stressed that the team would not disappoint the country at the event.
“This is the first time we are entering for the Deaflympics Games, most of the players are new but I know they can do the country proud,’’ he said.
