Ebonyi To Complete Township Roads, 2014
The Ebonyi State government has vowed to complete the 300 kilometres of roads currently being executed in Abakaliki by December 2014.
The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Chukwuma Nwandugo, said in Abakaliki on Thursday that the roads were being constructed or rehabilitated to enhance intra-city network.
“All ongoing road projects in the state capital will be completed by December 2014,’’ he said, adding that the measure was to open up Abakaliki through aggressive road construction.
The commissioner, who declined to say the cost of the contracts said they were awarded in 2011 and that the contractors had been mobilised.
He said the projects would boost the socio-economic status of the state capital and ease movement in the town.
Nwandugo said that good road infrastructure would attract local and foreign investors, and speed up economic development of the state.
“The intra-city road network in Abakaliki will fast-track social and economic activities in and around the capital city. “A good road network will boost the movement of goods and services and reduce the cost of transportation in the state capital. Again, our state will be opened up to local and foreign investors and tourists,’’ he said.
Nwandugo said the aggressive road development was part of the government’s effort to make Abakaliki a model capital city in line with the government’s transformation agenda.
He enumerated the projects to include Ishieke, Ogbaga, Nkaliki, Onuebonyi and Udensi roads.
