Commission Raids Onitsha, Impounds Pirated Works
The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has intercepted pirated goods worth over N2 million in a market in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The Zonal Manager of NCC, Mr Emeka Ogbonna, told newsmen after a raid on Tuesday, that the seized pirated goods were mainly music plates adding that two persons had been apprehended in connection with the seizures.
Ogbonna said that the commission was alerted by some traders on the activities of the pirates.
“The exercise is meant to check people who want to reap where they did not sow. “The NCC is embarking on public enlightenment to let people know about its operations and resolve to stop piracy in markets across the country, especially in Onitsha and environs. “We are appealing to Nigerians to support us through prompt and accurate information on activities of these economic saboteurs,’’ he said.A market leader, Mr Joseph Okpalakunne, lauded the NCC over the exercise, stressing that the gesture would sanitise the market and restore profitability.
Okpalakunne urged the NCC to continue in its fight against pirates as “this will gradually revive the collapsing entertainment industry’’.
