Chief of Staff to Govenor Chibuike Amaechi, Chief Tony Okocha, says he is not afraid appearing before the police as he has no skeleton in his cupboard.
He spoke at the special stakeholders meeting of Obio/Akpor people held at the play ground of Rivers State College of Arts and Science yesterday in Port Harcourt ,positing that his summons by the police to clear some issues was not strange to him.
“Iam not scared appearing before the police. I don’t have any criminal record. I will be there any moment from now,’’ Okocha declared.
He told a huge crowd of Obio/Akpor people that they should not be perturbed over the political development in the local government area following plans to break the peace and tranquility of the area, as he urged them to resist all forms of aggravation as the crisis will soon be over. “At the fullness of time, the Pharoahs you see today, the Egyptians you see today you shall see them no more,’’ he said.
” What you are seeing is the sign of the end time and I must tell you all that glitters is not gold,’’ he added
Chief Okocha assured the people that the governor will not fail to carry out his developmental projects in the area as he is their son.
Calling on the people to be steadfast, he opined that they stand to enjoy the dividends of democracy, since Governor Amaechi is poised to deliver and will never be distracted, adding “ we must not allow them, and we must stand by the truth’’.
Earlier, Caretaker Chairman of Obio/Akpor Council and convener of the forum, Chikordi Dike lauded the people for attending in their numbers assuring them that the council has been liberated from those who want to run it aground, “Obio/Akpor is no longer a one-man show because we are ready to take suggestions, advice and idea seriously”.
Hon. Dike thanked the people for remaining peaceful in the face of challenge, while urging the chiefs and youth to remain law-abiding, while the crisis phases away.
Meanwhile, Chief Okocha has announced the new empowerment scheme floated by Governor Amaechi for youth, men and women in the 23 local government areas. He disclosed that the scheme will affect 300 persons from each ward per local government area, with a supplementary list of 50 persons in each of the areas.
As the coordinator of the scheme, he disclosed that the scheme was aimed to reduce the unemployment rate in the state, noting that , “ a lot of people are not in terms with the physical infrastructure the governor is putting in place but about their stomach. So the governor is thinking that while he is going on with physical infrastructure development and other projects that will bring developments to the state, the problem of the people vis-a-vis their stomach has to be considered.’’
The Chief of Staff expressed hope that with the scheme poverty will disappear from the land as he insisted that women will be given a pride of place in the scheme, He hinted that Obio/Akpor will have about 5,150 beneficiaries as the programme will differ from each local government area based on the number of wards they have.
