As workers all over the world file out to celebrate Workers Day today, the Chairman of the National Union of Printing, Publishing and Paper Products Workers (NUPPPPROW), Rivers State Newspaper Corporation chapter, Comrade Abraham Amesi, has commended workers in the country for their tireless efforts in the development of the nation.

Comrade Amesi who made the commendation in a statement issued in Port Harcourt noted that workers remained the live wire of any nation, stressing that Nigerian workers in particular had “contributed immensely in the building, development and co-existence of our nation since her independence in 1960”.

According to him, a nation without a workforce was like a torch light without battery.

He asserted that May 1 of every year was a day set aside for workers to celebrate, reflect and chart a way forward for nation building, stressing that, “it is a day workers are filled with hopes and expectations on how the government will in turn appreciate their efforts and contributions in nation building”.

Describing Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as workers-friendly, Comrade Amesi expressed optimism that the governor would grace the May Day celebration and join the workers to sing their solidarity song with a view to charting a way forward for the State.
