Enugu To Spend N400m On Potable Water
The Enugu State Government has approved N400 million for the provision of potable water for the people.
Briefing newsmen in Enugu on Friday, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, said the measure would go a long way to provide adequate water for the people and guard against the outbreak of water borne-diseases in the state.
He explained that N300 million would be spent on the rehabilitation of the Ninth-Mile Corner Water Scheme and re-building of eight bore holes and drilling of four additional ones.
The commissioner said that N49 million would be spent on procurement of water supply facilities at the proposed state Theme Park, located in the Udi Local Government Area of the state.
Ugwoke said that N48 million had been set aside for the state’s Water Corporation to procure water treatment chemicals for the purification of raw water from the Ajalli-Owa Water Scheme.
“The State Government gave approval for the water scheme rehabilitation to be done by Eauxwell Nigeria Ltd. and the hiring of Quodroform Engineering Coy as the consultant. “The rehabilitation of the water scheme is to guard against outbreak of water borne diseases in the state. “The government also approved N37million for the renewal of comprehensive insurance cover for 285 public school buses provided by the State Government,” he said.
The commissioner said that Gov. Sullivan Chime had appealed to the people of the state to give President Goodluck Jonathan a rousing welcome to the state.
According to him, Jonathan is expected to visit Enugu State on Saturday for the ground-breaking and foundation laying of the international wing of the Akanu Ibiam Airport.
“The president will thereafter, have a South East stakeholder’s interactive meeting with stakeholders from the zone,’’ the commissioner added.
