Chairman’s Wife Donates To Physically Challenged Persons
The wife of the Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area in Abia, Mrs Nkechi Ikoroha, has donated wheelchairs, crutches, sewing machines and fabrics to the physically challenged in the area.
Ikoroha said at the presentation in Eziama, the council headquarters, that she was moved by the “abilities in disability’’ of the beneficiaries and that the items would help them to be useful to themselves and the society.
She said she was also motivated by the philanthropy of the Abia governor’s wife, Mrs Mercy Orji, who had made giving to the less privileged her nature.
“I sold the idea to my husband and he gave his full support without delay with the provision of the items. I felt so happy that in my life, I have contributed a little to the physically challenged today,’’ Ikoroha said.
She appealed to the well-to-do, corporate bodies and multi-national companies to assist the less privileged with at least 2 per cent of their financial gains.
Chief Jonathan Ikoroha, her husband, also expressed happiness that the gestured made the desired impact in the beneficiaries. “I have never been so happy in my life until this day when I saw the smiles in their faces with the little gift,’’ he said.
He vowed to make it an annual event to enable others to benefit from the exercise.
Chief Prestige Ossy, who chaired the occasion, commended the donor for giving succor to the less privileged in the society.
“We should not always allow the government to do all things; it is also our responsibility to support the needy,’’ he said.
One of the recipients, Miss Rose Alaribe, prayed God to reward the donor for remembering them.
“We pray that God will perfect all that concern you, enlarge your coast and lift you above your equals,’’ she said.
Alaribe, however, said they needed employment for those of them who were graduates and undergraduates, computers to be ICT literate and a bus for easy movements.
