Commissioner Charges Traditional Rulers On Security

Enugu State Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters, Pastor Emeka Abugu, has urged traditional rulers in the state to avoid any act capable of bringing disunity and insecurity in their communities.

Abugu said this at Amodu-Okowo Awkunanaw during the installation of Igwe Okechukwu Ogbuka, Udoha 11 of Amodu as the traditional ruler of Amodu –Okowo Awkunanaw, Nkanu West LGA.

He noted that as custodians of the people’s culture, traditional rulers should always foster peace, unity and progress among their subjects to promote sustainable development.

In his welcome address, the President –General of the community, Mr Ndidi Edeh, said the emergence of Igwe Ogbuka followed the conduct of a peaceful, transparent, free and fair election in December, 2012.

He requested the new royal father to remain steadfast and always uphold the 2009 Constitution of the community.

Edeh called on Amodu-Okowo indigenes to unite in giving their support to the Igwe, whom they hoped, would in-turn protect their rights, privileges, pursue and obtain all that was due to them as well as up-hold their customs.

“Let us therefore instal our leader with good conscience, ignore the pressures and misconceptions both within and outside which are capable of destabilising the peace and unity that have continued to be our most cherished virtue,’’ he said.

Responding, the traditional ruler, Igwe Okechukwu Ogbuka, thanked his people for finding him worthy to serve, promising that he would justify the confidence reposed in him.

He called for their cooperation, constructive criticism and suggestions as he charged them ‘to always think home’ so that together they would re-position the lost glory of their community.
