Cleric Charges Christians On Faith
Rev. Fr. Oliver Ugwu of St. Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral Nsukka, Enugu State, says Jesus Christ’s resurrection means that with faith in God, all things are possible. Ugwu said this in Nsukka on Sunday while delivering the Easter homily.
He said it was Jesus Christ’s absolute faith and trust in God that made it possible for him to defeat the power of death through his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
“No matter the circumstance or challenge facing you as Christians, with faith, you will come out victorious.’’
“If the power of death cannot hold Christ, the same way the power of your problems cannot stop a dedicated Christian from achieving his life dream. “And without the resurrection of Jesus Christ there could not have been Christianity,” he noted.
He urged leaders to emulate Jesus Christ’s love for mankind that made him to lay down his life to bring salvation and comfort to those who believe in him.
Ugwu equated a good leader with a shepherd who will do everything to protect his sheep from wolves and other wild animals.
“Christ has shown good example to us and how to protect those under our care by accepting death even when he committed no crime. ‘The problem with our political leaders is that most times, they forget those whose care has been entrusted to them,’’ he said.
He advised Christians to use the lessons of lent to show love to their neighbours, irrespective of tribe and religion.
“It will be impossible for one to say he loves God if he cannot share what he has with his neighbours,’’. “We must use what God gave us to serve God by being kind to people around us, especially motherless children. “No amount of kind gesture will be too much for us to show our fellow human beings, considering the supreme sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross of Calvary’’, he declared.
