Senate Vows To Unravel Mystery Corpses
The Senate has reiterated its resolve to get to the root of the strange corpses discovered floating on Ezu River in Amansea community in Anambra.
The leader of the joint committees on police affairs and national security and intelligence investigating the matter, Mr Paulinus Nwagu, gave the assurance on Wednesday when the delegation repeated its visit to the community.
It would be recalled that the committee had on Feb. 12 visited the state to commence investigation into the matter.
The bodies were discovered on Jan. 19.
An autopsy to ascertain the cause of death is being conducted on them by the police and state government pathologists.
Both the police and the Anambra government gave the number of corpses as 19.
However, journalists and members of the public were barred from covering or observing Wednesday’s public session with some traditional rulers.
“As senators, we are here to talk with the people in camera because of the fear of the unknown.
“We are not hiding anything. We are here to make sure that we get to the root of the matter as far as the Ezu River is concerned.
“Many people are afraid to talk to us in the public and we have decided to talk to them in camera.
“By the grace of God we have been able to know the feelings of the people and that is what they wanted which we have given to them,” Nwagu said.
The senator appealed to the media and members of the public to come out with information either in writing or orally that could help to unravel the circumstances.
The session was held with traditional rulers from Amansea, Ebenebe, Achalla, Oba Ofemili and Ugbene communities in the state.
