Police Arraign Suspect For Drug Possession
An 18-year-old boy, Donald Ugwu, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu for alleged possession of a substance suspected to be cocaine.
Counsel to the state, Ralph Anyoji told the court that the boy was arrested by the police on June 13, 2012 in a bush at the Night Mile Corner, Ngwo in Udi LGA of Enugu state.
Anyoli said that the boy, who hails from Iwolo-Oghe in Ezagu LGA of Enugu state, was allegedly caught with seven kg of the substance.
The defence lawyer, Mrs Juliet Gbanigo, however, said that somebody gave her client the substance to hold for him so that he could ease himself.
According to her, “my client did not know the content of the bag neither did he know the person that gave him the substance to hold for him”.
“My client is only a small boy who went into a bush to defecate when the police arrived,’’ she said.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Presiding judge, M. L. Shuaibu therefore adjourned the matter till April 15 for further hearing.
