Owerri Businessman Trapped In Bank
A man trapped in the security door of a new generation bank in Owerri last Wednesday blamed his ordeal on the failure of the PHCN to serve its purpose satisfactorily.
Our source who witnessed the incident said that the man was trapped in the door for close to one hour as efforts by the security men to manually open the door failed.
Narrating his ordeal, the victim, a business man who gave his name simply as John, said that if he was elderly or asthmatic the story would have been different.
He said that he was able to withstand suffocation because he was young and had the belief that nothing would happen to him.
He blamed the PHCN for cutting off electricity supply for hours without restoring it for people to continue their businesses.
Many customers were in the banking hall when the man was trapped as the door shut down and could not be forced open.
Some of the customers who spoke with newsmen blamed both the PHCN and the bank management for negligence of duty.
A top official of the bank who pleaded anonymity regretted the incident, saying the bank would do everything within its powers to forestall a repeat.
