Commissioner Harps On Grassroots Dev
The Imo State Commissioner for Community, Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro, has described community government as a catalyst for grassroots development and rapid growth.
Nnanna-Okoro made the declaration in Owerri when she received members of Anara Traditional Council, in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
She advised traditional rulers in the state to take the affairs of community government seriously and urged those who had not received executive secretaries posted to their communities to report to her ministry for necessary action.
She said that the secretaries had enormous responsibilities, especially the payment of pensions which, she said, would be made at the autonomous community level.
Nnanna-Okoro enjoined traditional rulers to be alive to their duties and thanked the Anara Traditional Council for the homage paid to her.
She promised to carry the communities along to achieve the aims of establishing community government councils.
Earlier, Nze Chris Agbugba, the Eze-elect of Anara Ancient Kingdom, said they were on the visit to express their solidarity to the commissioner.
He noted that the enormity of work in the Ministry of Community Government and Chieftaincy Affairs would only be driven smoothly by grassroots politicians.
Agbugba pledged the unalloyed support of Anara Ancient Kingdom to Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration.
