The Chairman, House Committee on Environment in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Victoria Nyeche,                                                                      has expressed dismay at the attitude of some members of the public on environmental sanitation days observed in the state.

Hon. Nyeche, who was on a joint monitoring with the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Envrionmental Sanitation Authority, Mr. Ade Adeogun frowned at the attitude of the Chairman of the Rivers State Tankers Association Chairman, Mr. John Amajuoyi, who failed to produce a permit allowing him free movement.

Also the action of a man who claimed to be a naval personnel and rode in a real Volvo Wagon with registration number River NCH527AA and was not able to show any identity drew the condemnation of Hon. Nyeche.

Another action which did not go down well with her was the convoy by uniform naval personnel who wanted to break their way through and refused to be questioned.

Investigations by our correspondent showed that the person who rode in the black Land Cruise Jeep with registration number Lagos BRS AGL was not a military officer but a mere P.A. to some officer in a government parastatal.

Speaking to newsmen later, Hon. Nyeche explained that the issue of indiscriminate parking of tankers would be settled between the Oyigbo Local Government Council and tanker drivers association.

On the security challenges facing the Sanitation Authority, Hon. Nyeche, expressed the hope that when the issue of State Police was done with through the constitutional amendment, such challenges would be a thing of the past.

“Well you all know that we are in the process of reviewing our constitution and there has been a proposal for State Police.

“We know that the Nigeria Police is doing their best and there is a lot of security lapses that we have observed and the sanitation authority does not have its own security force”, she said.

She said for now, the authority has to rely on the regular Nigeria Police even as she called on the police to continue in collaborating with the authorities effort in ensuring that their work was done securely and safely.

While expressing poor compliance by the people of Oyigbo, she said there was room for improvement as this was the first exercise for the year.

“I believe that by the next exercise it will be better because some persons are yet to recover from the Christmas and New Year activities”, she said.
