The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Akin Osibogun, says  Public Private Partnership (PPP) is the only panacea for effective public healthcare delivery in the country.

Osibogun also said that the adoption of the PPP model in medical services provision would enhance infrastructure development in the sector.

He spoke in Asaba at the 1st National Health conference of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

The CMD said that private sector partnership with the government was imperative because government alone could not finance the health sector.

He said that such synergy was working at LUTH, explaining that the institution adopted the model when it became obvious that its resources could not provide complementing equipment for its services.

Osibogun said that the cost of accessing good health services currently in the country was enormous.

“The National Health Policy and the PPP that I am talking about should be one built on equity, quality and relevance,” he said.

Also, Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan said that there were many challenges to health administration in the country.

He said that in the spirit of PPP, the state government had engaged private experts in its hospitals to ensure that effective services were delivered to the people at affordable rate.
