Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, has promised
free flow of traffic in Onitsha and its environs during the forthcoming
Christmas and New Year festivities.

“We are putting all necessary measures in place to
ensure free flow of traffic throughout the Christmas and New Year celebrations
in Onitsha,’’ Obi said on Monday.

The governor gave the assurance while inspecting a
drainage project at the Bridge-Head entrance of the Harbour Industrial Estate
in Onitsha.

He said the government would soon commence palliative
work on the Upper Iweka-to- Zik’s Round-About axis of the Onitsha-Enugu road to
make it motorable during the season.

He said the proper reconstruction of the road would
commence next year as the Federal Government was considering giving the state
approval to undertake the project.

Obi further said the state government would not relent
in removing illegal motor parks, bus stops and other structures that obstructed
free flow of traffic on major roads in Onitsha.

He said he would continue to conduct regular inspection
of state and federal projects in Onitsha to ensure that the pace of work was
maintained.
