Int’l Friendly: Super Eagles Test Might Against Venezuela

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will in the early hours of tomorrow engage their Venezuelan counterparts in an international friendly match in Miami, United States of America.

For the Stephen Keshi led Super Eagles, it forms part of preparations for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations, early next year in South Africa.

In as much as the contingent will be looking to put in a good performance and result, the essence of the game is to build team spirit, cohesion and rhythm that would be handy in South Africa in January.

It will also afford returnees Obafemi Martins and Brown Ideye and new entrant, Shola Ameobi the opportunity to convince Keshi of their relevance to the Nations Cup party next year.

The game, scheduled to kickoff 2.00am Nigerian time tomorrow will be only the second time Nigeria and Venezuela will be clashing in the game.

Both countries met on July 26, 2003 and it took Skipper Austin Okocha’s solitary goal to separate the two teams that day.

As at yesterday, according to Nigeria Football Federation, NFF’s source, all players invited for the match, except Chelsea’s duo, Mikel Obi and Victor Moses, who opted out, were in the Super Eagles camp and trained yesterday.

Apart from homeboys, goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim Godfrey Oboabona, Solomon Kwambe, Azubuike Egwueke, Benjamin Francis, Umar Zango, Henry Uche, Sunday Mba, Ejike Uzoenyi and Gomo Onduku, there are Elderson Echiejile, Raheem Lawal, Ogenyi Onazi, Nosa Igiebor and US-based Bright Ejike to try and show that the Super Eagles are on the up surge as the 2013 Nations Cup approaches.
