RVHA Speaker Eulogises Ex-Lawmakers

Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Rt Hon. Otelemaba Amachree has expressed satisfaction with the valuable contributions of both past and present lawmakers to the development of the state.

Hon. Amachree who made the observation recently at the State Assembly Red Carpet event in Port Harcourt, said the inputs of the lawmakers have gone a long way to strengthen democratic culture in the state.

He noted that the event was to celebrate legislators, past and present who, have contributed significantly to the growth of the state, pointing that those honoured have distinguished themselves in the act of lawmaking.

The Speaker commended Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and other past Speakers of the House for setting the pace which the current Assembly is reaping from and congratulated them on the award of Ambassadors of the house.

Responding to the Award, Governor Chibuike Amaechi, said the history of the lawmakers would be written in gold for their immense support to his administration.

Governor Amaechi acknowledged that the past lawmakers made important decisions that have shaped the work of present legislators and thanked the House for the honour bestowed on him.

He, however, urged the Assembly to bring forward the law passed on the State Education Quality Assurance Agency for his assent to enable the government commence the process of regulating standards in the Education sector.

The governor later unveiled the Assembly Hall of fame.

Also speaking former Speaker of the House Rt Hon. Tonye Harry, said the event was a celebration of democracy and urged the House leadership to ensure that the event becomes annual.

He thanked his colleagues for finding him worthy of the honour, adding that as speaker he enjoyed the cooperation of all members and sued for similar support for his successor.

The best legislators Award went to Governor Amaechi, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, Hon. Victoria Nyeche, Chief Levi Braide and Hon. Leyii Kwanee.

The Ambassadors Award 2012 went to all the fomer Speakers, Hon. Rosebery Briggs, Chief Dominic Anucha, Chief Godspower Ake, Talford Ongolo, Joseph Kemeagbeye, Claudius Alabo Enegesi.
