The Bishop  the Niger Diocese, Anglican Communion Onitsha, Anambra State, Rt. Rev. Owen Dozie Nwokolo, Sunday wept bitterly over the widespread floods which had continued to submerge farm lands and render hundreds of thousands of people homeless in Anambra state and other states of the federation.

Bishop Nwokolo at a thanksgiving service held at All Saints Cathedral Onitsha, Anambra state to mark the 50th anniversary of the Eteleson Group, Onitsha, called on Nigerians and multi-nationals within and outside the country to rescue the flood victims by assisting them with relief materials such as food items, medicine, clothes and shelter.

According to him, one way man can demonstrate the purpose for his creation is by lifting a heavy burden on his unknown neighbour and wiping his tears, describing the flooding of some farm lands and several homes in some states of the federation as a monumental disaster and first of its kind in Nigeria’s history.

The clergyman also advised Nigerians to store food items to be used next year and in the nearest future, predicting that famine would be imminent in 2013, following the destruction of several farm lands in the North, South and Eastern parts of the country for some time now.

While urging Nigerians to emulate the Eteleson family of Onitsha in supporting the advancement of evangelism, the Anglican Bishop explained that the relief materials recently distributed to flood victims in parts of Anambra State by the Diocese, was to alleviate their sufferings.

He also commended Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi for  providing relief materials to flood victims in the state.

Earlier, at a business convention organised as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Eteleson Group held by the company’s International Conference Centre at Onitsha, the chairman, Sir Alfred Nworah Etele and the Group Managing Director, Obinna Etele, in their joint address expressed joy that a business that started in 1962 by late Pa Alfred Nwabukaodigbo, as a mere music records shop, has today blossomed into a multi-national company with several branches in Nigeria, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

According to them, despite the Nigerian civil war from 1967 – 1970, the dream of the founding father of shooting Etele’s name as a world supper power in commerce and industry was kept alive, even as the Eteleson Group had now become the sole and trade distributors of several products from different manufacturing companies globally.

In the same vein, to inject life and provide some comfort to Nigerians who have had nightmares experiencing excruciating heat, following the country’s perennial energy problem, the Eteleson Group, has again pioneered the introduction into Nigerian market, a Rechargeable Fan, with capacity of working for over five hours after power failure.

Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, the Bishops of Afikpo, Rt. Rev. Paul Udogu, Awka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Alex Ibezim, as well as cream of the business community from within and outside the country graced the occasion.
