Church Urges Govt To Re-Invest Subsidy Proceeds
The Anglican Diocese of Aba in Abia State, has urged government to begin re-investing the proceeds of the partial removal of subsidy on petrol into the provision of social amenities.
The church made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of the 1st Session of the 14th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Aba.
The synod was also the first, chaired by the new Bishop of Aba, the Rt. Rev. Christian Ugwuzor.
The synod, which ended on Monday, said the funds should be used to address the problems of roads, water, electricity and medicare.
It acknowledged the efforts of the government to repair roads across the country but expressed concern over the poor state of some roads in Abia, particularly the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
“A good number of roads in Abia and some Federal roads, especially the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, are still in terrible state of disrepair. “Therefore, the state and federal governments are called upon to give serious attention to these roads,” the church said.
It condemned incessant bomb attacks on churches and other public places by Boko Haram, which have resulted in the killing of innocent persons.
It urged the Federal Government not to relent in its efforts to bring the perpetrators of the attacks to justice.
It urged mankind to seek knowledge of God as the only way of finding peace and salvation.
