The development of the new Mile 12 market which was relocated to Parafa area of Ikorodu in Lagos State might suffer setback, as the market has been taken over by estate developers and individual land owners, which may prompt a change in the proposed site.

Investigations have revealed that some of the developers are in possession of legal documents for their respective Landed property.

Between Itamaga Sawn Mill and Maya, the two communities that sandwitched Parafa, especially, Alagemo Parafa, which is the heart of the project, are myriads of physical development, owned by individuals and developers, thus raising doubt over the possibility of acquiring sufficient space for the market relocation exercise.

Last year, senior government officials admitted encroachment and disclosed that discussion was ongoing with the developers.

“The delay in relocating Mile 12 food stuff market in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State to Parafa in Ikorodu Local Government was as a result of an encroachment on the proposed Land by illegal developers, and discussion is still on between the government and the private investors”. The official stated.

One of the residents of the area told newsmen that they possess documents backing their claim to the land, and further stated “before I started this project, I made necessary enquiry from the Land Bureau and office of the Surveyor-General, where it was proved that the land was not under acquisition”.

“However, if the land will be taken over for any project under the so called overall public interest, government knows what to do and it should be ready for compensation”. He further stated.
