Flooding: Buildings Collapse In Auchi

At least two buildings have collapsed and several others sub-merged in Auchi town of Esako-West local government area of Edo State on Sunday, following a rain fall that flooded the area.

It was gathered that the heavy rainfall which lasted for about four hours on Sunday resulted to a very high flood that pushed down the said buildings, while several other buildings were completely sub-merged in the process.

Residents of the area who were almost helpless in the situation watched the unfolding events with sympathy, as natural event had put them in a tight corner, as they watched the most viable town in Esako west taken over by flood.

Some of the residents of the area blamed the  flooding on the road construction work that was on going in the area, which they said was not properly planned before the commencement of the project.

The residents accused the road construction workers of not doing all that was required before the proper commencement of work, particularly in the area of planning and executing the drainage system, putting into consideration the topography of the town.

Auchi is a town in Esako-west local government area of Edo State with a special topography which is almost similar to that of Okene in Kogi State, with hard soil and rocky ground that makes development and construction work uneven, and requires special planning and logistics in project execution.
