The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) has moved the venue of its 2012 Annual General Meeting (AGM) from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital to Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

This year’s AGM which is to last for five days, and scheduled between Monday June 25th to Friday June 29th 2012, The Tide gathered; was shifted to Ilorin due to the security situation  up-north, particularly in Maiduguri.

It was gathered that the decision to change the venue of the AGM was informed by the Boko Haram activities.

Speaking to The Tide on the development, the chairman of NIS Rivers State branch, Chief L.W. Chuku said that it was supposed to be the turn of the North-East of which Maiduguri was earlier chosen to host this year’s AGM, but that the security situation could not be tolerated.

Chief Chuku explained that it was a very difficult task the members, especially those from the south, took to ensure that the venue was change to Ilorin which is still in the north, but more peaceful than the former.

The Rivers State Surveyors boss also posited that this year’s AGM would be unique because of the circumstances surrounding its conveyance combined with the end of tenure of the present leadership of the institution.

He said one of the major agenda of the AGM is the election of newa executive that will pilot the affairs of the institution.
