Public Hearing: Union Unhappy With RVHA Over Exclusion
The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) Rivers State
council had expressed displeasure with the leadership of the State Assembly over their exclusion from the house public
hearings.
The state chairman of TUC, Comrade Chika Onuegbu alleged
that the act was deliberate and was aimed at excluding TUC and workers from the
legislative processes and public hearing
invitations.
He stated that invitations for the legislative public
hearings were usually sent to the union leadership one day to the public
hearing or after the closure date for submission of memoranda.
Comrade Onugbu described the act as condemnable,
unacceptable and anti-democracy.
He noted that the state House of Assembly cannot make laws
without the active involvement of key stakeholders such as TUC and the workers
and expect the organised labour and workers to obey such laws.
The TUC boss said the organised labour would not fail to
direct its members and affiliate unions to disregard all laws and resolutions
passed by the house since the House Leadership chose to exclude the TUC and
workers from making their in put into such laws during the public hearings.
