Obi Warns On Politics Of Self Destruction
Governor Peter Obi of Anambra has urged politicians to shun politics of self destruction by being committed to the aspirations of the electorate.
Obi gave the advice recently during an inspection tour of ongoing projects at Ihiala Council Secretariat near Onitsha.
The inspection was part of the governor’s statewide tour of the 21 council areas to meet with the people and inspect the level of ongoing projects.
The governor chastised politicians who engaged children as thugs to achieve their political ambitions.
“Politics that negates due process and the rule of law is a threat to the stability and safety of the society.
“What Anambra needs at this time is for the people to re-order their thinking to be in line with what will be of benefit to the state and her citizenry.
“Instead of building and equipping schools to bring qualitative education to the door steps of every child; some politicians choose to use children and youths as thugs to achieve their political interest without considering the long term sad consequences.’’
Obi said the tour of the council areas had enabled him to listen to the people, identify their problems and harness their responses in the formulation of government policies.
He promised to embark on such tour every three months.
Meanwhile, Governor Obi has called on Christians to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ by living a life of service and love toward their neighbours.
Obi made the call on Saturday in Onitsha, Anambra, in his Easter message to the people of the State.
“The celebration of Easter reminds us (Christians) of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which forms the basis of Christianity.
“As we celebrate this year’s Easter, we are called to emulate the virtues of Christ, which teaches us the importance of the life of service and love to our neighbours.
“May this celebration bring our people closer in the spirit of love and understanding,’’ he said.
The governor, however, urged Christians to pray in a “special way’’ for continued peace in Anambra and the nation.
“We should not forget to give thanks to God for His many blessings to us as individuals, society, state and country,’’ he said.
