The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) member representing Anaocha 1 Constituency in the Anambra House of Assembly, Mr Ebele Ejifor, has commended Gov. Peter Obi for initiating moves to build a three-arm-zone in the state.

Ejiofor also decried the poor state of infrastructure at the State House of Assembly complex.

Obi recently announced plans to build a new government house, house of assembly and judiciary headquarters to provide better working environment and facilities for the state civil service.

The new buildings, to be sited at the Agu-Awka area of the state capital, are expected to be completed before the end of Obi’s tenure in 2014.

“Gov. Peter Obi should be commended for his efforts to build new house of assembly complex for the state, because if you go to the present assembly complex, you will find out that most of us do not have offices, let alone equipping them.

“The uncompleted structure besides the present assembly building has been going on for many years and does not look befitting for the state.

“We deserve a new and modern complex that will look presentable like what you will find in other state houses of assembly in the country.

“No matter where in Awka it is be sited, it is still part of the state capital and will also get development to the people of that area,” said Ejiofor, who is the Chairman of the assembly service committee.

On his achievements in the few months of assumption of office, the legislator noted that he had facilitated the provision of empowerment items to youths and widows in his constituency.

“I have moved motions that have translated into the rehabilitation of roads by the Obi administration, including the Nne Ogide-Agulu road in my constituency.

“I have also facilitated the construction of public toilets in major markets and schools and provided scholarships to 100 secondary and tertiary school students from the area,” he said.

He urged politicians to see their position as an avenue for service to the general public and not as a medium to intimidate others.
